Daddy, Why Did You Put My Toy On That Painting?

 

This is simple and very fun.  Wickedly fun, in fact.

Take one of your kids' smaller toys and hide it somewhere in your house.  Don't do a great job. In fact, the less well hidden the toy is, the better.  We want your kids to easily discover the toy in question.

Then . . . do nothing.  Don't mention what you did.  Go about your business as usual.

Eventually -- perhaps sooner than later -- your beloved youngster will notice the rather unusual location of his or her toy.  "My toy is on top of that painting!”  Or in front of the TV, or dangling from the dining room chandelier.

My own kids were thrilled to see one of their Playmobil pirates watching from the top of my wife's painting.  They yelled, they pointed, they jumped up and down.  And then they ran to assemble more toys for me to hide. 

Of course, I could have asked them to hide toys for me.  That would have given me even more "free time" (during which I made the kids' lunch.)
